Up until this point, my only experience with E.P. Carrillo has been limited to the La Historia, which I loved. The Generosos is an exclusive line that is only sold at 8 to 8 Cigars and Casa de Montecristo. Casa de Montecristo prices them at 10.74 for the toro size.

E.P. Carrillo Generosos – Pre-light inspection

Upon first inspection the cigar has a rather rustic look to it. The cigar has some noticeable veins on it and has a distinct texture to it. The Generosos also gives off a nice grassy and barnyard aroma. The foot yields some coffee, chocolate and a mix of spices. A cold draw gives off much of the same.

E.P. Carrillo Generosos – First Third

Coffee, Black Pepper, Earth

The pre-light inspection is a perfect prelude to the first light. Right away notes of coffee become very present and are accompanied by black pepper and earth. The retro-hale is also amazingly smooth, bringing with it creaminess and a sweet cedar with no harshness whatsoever.

The draw is perfect – not too loose and not too tight, reaching a very happy median. With each draw the flavors quickly become more pronounced: the coffee is building along with the black pepper.

Nearing the end of the first third there’s a crescendo happening as the flavors start to build and intensify. A retrohale at this point intensifies the cigar quite a bit, adding heat and clearing out the sinuses.

E.P. Carrillo Generosos – Second Third

Coffee, Black Pepper, Earth, More Coffee

The second third begins much where the first third left off.  As the coffee fades out, black pepper takes over and adds more heat to the equation. The first retro-hale of the second third proved to be slightly too much for my sinuses to handle.

The subtle earthiness in the first third also picked up quite a bit and balances out the black pepper and spice. Just like before, the second third of the E.P. Carrillo Generosos goes out with a bang.  Coffee also jumps back into action.

Note: the burn has been fantastic to this point.

E.P. Carrillo Generosos – Final Third

Coffee, Cream, Cedar, Earth, Chocolate

Right away I’m greeted with the coffee I came to know in the first third of the cigar. In addition to the coffee, retrohaling the Generosos in the last third adds a creaminess that reminds me of a Cafe Con Crema. The earthiness and spice have now faded to the background.

The last bit of the cigar starts to mellow out with flashes of cedar, earth, and a hint of chocolate adding to the picture this cigar has painted.

Right up to the very last, this third proved to be a nice end to a fantastic cigar. The flavors throughout meshed very well and nothing seemed out of place. The E.P. Carrillo Generosos surpassed my expectations. And, nicotine was also non-existent: not a buzz, not a head rush, nothing. I think anyone could handle this cigar.

E.P. Carrillo Generosos – Final Thoughts.

The Generosos proved to be very enjoyable. The construction was rock solid and the burn was great. The smoke had a nice mouth feel to it and was abundant. I found this cigar to be very well balanced and, in my opinion, worth the price tag. I will definitely be purchasing a box in the near future. If coffee, pepper, and earth are in your ballpark, I’d recommend you try this cigar as well.

Excellent draw

Fantastic smoke production

Great construction

Selected retail release.

The Generosos was a fantastic smoke! I enjoyed it so much I had to try my best to not fan-girl over it. This cigar is a solid contender in the ~$11 range - I'd pay more for the experience.

Fantastic smoke, great price point
Not sure if this is the best cigar for the price, but I love the combination of coffee and pepper in my cigars. They were a little more subtle than I would want the to be, but in a medium cigar, they were pronounced enough to pick up the subtleties. Very smooth burning with smoke production that did not overwhelm, it was worth picking up and enjoying.

Excellent Cigar
Nice write up Estevan, I too really enjoy smoking this cigar. Luckily for me, Casa is my home shop so this is one of my go to cigars.

Great Exclusive
I don't know much about the flavors and stuff, but I know what I like. I get these from a friend near Casa de Montecristo and they're good.
