Sporting a gorgeous Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, this cigar appears near perfect. The seams are difficult to see and the cap blends nicely with the light brown, caramel-colored wrapper. Scents from the wrapper are dry hay and sweet tobacco. From the foot I smell dry hay, wood scents and a little tingle of pepper.

I toast the foot and get the heat rolling on this cigar with peaked expectations following the cold draw. The initial smoke is cool on the palate. Earthy notes, pine, and anise are most evident. The flavors linger nicely, not finishing too quickly.

Visually, this is a beautiful cigar. Light brown in color, the wrapper was free of large veins with virtually invisible seams. Scents of cedar and hay emanated from the wrapper while the foot gave off notes of raisin, spice and cedar. After a perfect punch, draw was easy and tasted of vanilla, hay and mild cedar.

Unwrapping this cigar, I’m trying not to get my hopes up about this experience. An interesting concoction of brown sugar, raisin, curry, and chili powder is presented on the foot. Around the one inch mark this cigar begins to pop. Honey, cocoa powder, and nougat throw their weight into the ring in earnest, playing against the pepper and paprika tag team beautifully. Within just a few minutes, honey notes begin to rise to the top in a phenomenal display of sophistication. Mild spice tickles the back of the tongue and throat, but it’s something you have to look for. read moreFuego Heat
So far I’m enjoying the hell out of this Fuego Heat. So much so that I’m willing to say Fuego Heat some more even though I’m baffled as to why J. Fuego would name something Fire Hot. Oh well, you make a cigar this damn good and you call it whatever you want!
read moreCroMagnon Mode 5
Last week, I began my experience at Governor’s Cigar & Pipe the same way I do just about every time. I step into the humidor, take a deep breath, and then drool a little bit. Not overly much, but just the right amount of worship and inaptitude at being able to pick out just one of so many great smokes.
read moreCamacho American Barrel Aged
Initially I thought it might be a little sweeter from the bourbon aging, but this Camacho American Barrel Aged is all about power! Like a muscle car, or a Rocky movie, or a Face Punch from Tyson!
read moreBlack Pearl Rojo
Today I’m reviewing the Black Pearl Rojo from La Perla Habana – a cigar that I’ve probably smoked 7-10 boxes of over the years. It’s consistently been a go-to smoke for along with some Nica Libre sticks, handy to give out or burn when you have a few minutes and just want something with a smooth draw and even burn.

The Domestic Engineer just joined me on the porch and she said this stogie smells different. Not good or bad, because according to her Cigar smoking isn’t an honored past time, but she can tell the CroMagnon Fomorian is unique. Whatever that’s worth to ya. 😉
read moreMontecristo Espada
Here’s how I got saddled with this one: I walked into the humidor at my favorite Cigar lounge, and asked my favorite Bearded Ninja for something medium, complex, woodsy, and overall a badass follow-up. Said Bearded Ninja pointed directly to the Montecristo Espada, and it was game on.
read morePerdomo Sungrown
Definitely getting more and more spice as this Perdomo Sungrown keeps burning. I’m going to run the risk of sounding like one of those fancy schmancy cigar snobs by saying this is peppery. There, I said it.
read moreHC Series Red
Lots of smoke, better draw, distinct corojo taste. HC Series Red is exactly what I wanted this Sunday morning.
read morePunch Signature
So far the Punch Signature is something that I would order again, especially if the next one is similar to this one. It’s got the right amount of sophisitication for my young (re: amateur) palate, as well as the desired strength and construction.
read moreCohiba Nicaragua
I wouldn’t say earth or dirt or something stupid because I’ve never tasted those, but definitely something earthy. That’s the Cohiba Nicaragua.
read moreAve Maria Divinia
Kind of reminds me of a milder, softer, gentler yet ridiculously smooth and flavorful cigar. Kind of like a cuban, or so my friends that don’t respect the embargo tell me. 😉
read morePerdomo Lot 23
This Lot 23 had a sweet taste pre-light, and had a generally awesome and mature taste when blown through the noise. The ash held pretty well, the burn was nice and even, and the point where I wanted to put it away was about 70% through the stick.
